Traci Fowler has heard back from Texas Parks and Wildlife and they have asked for additional samples of deceased rabbits without trauma or insect activity. Please text or call her at 512-825-9900 with the location of the rabbit for her to collect.
We still don't have a definitive answer on what is occurring; however, they are suspecting rabbit hemorrhagic disease. The good news with that is it is not contagious to humans or other animals. The bad news is that it is highly contagious amongst rabbits and almost always 100% fatal to them. So, even if the rabbit you find is in bad condition, please bag it up and put in your trash to prevent another rabbit stumbling upon the deceased and becoming infected.
Thank you again for your help.
